The Cardinals, whose head coach has a very clear idea about a tight end’s priorities, are hosting one of the more prominent available players at the position.

According to Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic, ex-Vikings tight end John Carlson is visiting Arizona on Thursday.

Carlson (6-5, 248) caught 32 passes for 344 yards and a touchdown in 2013 for Minnesota. The Vikings released Carlson on Tuesday.

Carlson, who turns 30 in May, has hauled in 177 passes for 1,906 yards and 14 TDs in six NFL seasons. Before joining Minnesota in 2012, Carlson had a four-season stint in Seattle (2008-2011).

Carlson’s blocking would seem to be of particular interest to Arizona, given coach Bruce Arians’ use of the position over the years.
