The Giants could lose a pair of free agent defensive linemen in Justin Tuck and Linval Joseph once the market officially opens and they are reportedly looking to Baltimore for a possible replacement.

Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun and Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News both report that the Giants have expressed interest in defensive end Arthur Jones, who has spent the last four seasons with the Ravens. Jones joins cornerback Alterraun Verner as reported Giants targets in free agency.

Jones has started 19 games for Baltimore over the last two seasons, recording 8.5 sacks and forcing a fumble while picking up a Super Bowl ring after the 2012 season. He’s ranked 30th on PFT‘s Hot List of the top 100 players eligible for free agency this offseason.

Wilson adds that the Titans and Redskins also have interest in Jones, who has played in a 3-4 defense during his time with the Ravens. The Giants don’t run that type of scheme, but it seems they think Jones is versatile enough to handle a switch.

  1. Art Jones is a really solid, underrated player. I would rather keep Jones over Ngata at this point in their careers as the defensive lineman making the most money.

  2. Ravens will let Jones go. Just like Ellerbe, Kruger, and C. Williams. Good players, but not great. Teams will probably overpay. Ravens don’t lose their great players to FA.

  3. Art is a spark plug. Whoever signs him gets an awesome player who just so happens to be an awesome person. He’ll be a fan favorite. Gonna miss you Art!

  4. Can’t have enough solid DEs, but you can certainly have too few. The real challenge is the Corner opposite Prince, where I’d like to see JR sign Vontae Davis away from the Colts, but the market has jumped up thanks to the Brent Grimes’ 4 year $32M and Sam Shields 4 year $39M deals. That kind of scratch pushes JR to take Justin Gilbert with the 12th and save a ton… the rookie will hit the CAP for one-fifth of that APY. And Gilbert is the real deal… one pro analyst said “Would have signed him over any Corner not named Patrick Peterson in the last 3 classes.” But JR still has big O-line problems, so he can’t be using all his early picks on a Corners, WR, DE, DT, TE… Eli will be on crutches again.
