Shaun Lauvao bolts Browns for Redskins

The flurry of early signings on Tuesday afternoon has brought a new guard to Washington.

PFT has learned via a league source that the Redskins have signed former Browns guard Shaun Lauvao. It’s reportedly a four-year, $17 million deal for the four-year veteran.

Lauvao entered the NFL as a third-round pick in 2010 and took over a spot in the Browns starting lineup the next year. He’s started the last 43 games he’s played, missing five last season because of an ankle injury, and is a bigger player who didn’t appear to fit what new Browns offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan wants in an offensive lineman.

The Redskins started Chris Chester and Kory Lichtensteiger at guard last season, when Shanahan was running the offense in Washington. Lauvao’s acquisition could signal a wider change in what the offensive line will look like in Washington with Jay Gruden installed as the new head coach.

  1. The living legend, Joseph Jackson Gibbs, is smiling as the power running game has returned to the Most Powerful City in the world!! Lichtensteiger moving to his natural center position. HTTR!!

  2. Absolutely a must to build this team inside out starting with the o/d -line. Very effective guard who is in the prime of his career. Chester is gone. Good guy but very in ineffective last year. Grab a tackle in Free Agency and draft a d tackle. Good moves Gruden. Only question mark is S. Moss who I though was gone.

  3. The Redskins front office once more proves it is incompetent.

Lauvo is rated as one of the worst guards in the league. He routinely gives up sacks/hurries and is known for being a poor run blocker.

Why anyone would sign him, let alone give him 4 mil/year, is beyond me.

What a joke of a franchise. No wonder their money grubbing owner stole 1.3 million from their cap to stuff in his back pockets.

  4. Why the negative posts redskins fans? only thing i’ve read is he is better pass protector than run blocker. Our offensive line has been one of the worst at actually protecting the QB.

Decent sign, adds depth, and certainly doesn’t hurt our franchise AT ALL.

  5. Browns have gone through about 7 or 8 QB’s since Lauvao has been a starter. One could say that there are more problems with the line than Lauvao, but when you eliminate Alex Mack and Joe Thomas, that leaves Lauvao and the Rt on the right side and that’s where most of the QB pressure came from. Browns fans have been waiting for this day when he is no longer getting QB’s killed and drawing false start penalties. Actually surprised he didn’t get a false start in this FA period.

  6. This guy is a clown. DC fans will hear him on a local rock station acting like Mr. Cool. Then come Sunday he sucks. In the words of Fred Sanford, “Big Dummy!”
