Brandon Spikes won’t be returning to the New England Patriots, but he’s not leaving the AFC East either.

According to John Wawrow of the Associated Press, Spikes has agreed to terms on a one-year deal with the Buffalo Bills.

Spikes joins the Bills after four seasons spent with the Patriots. Spikes appeared in all 16 games, making 11 starts for New England last season. He posted 86 tackles and an interception. For his career, he’s appeared in 51 games for the Patriots with 286 tackles, a sack and two interceptions.

Spikes’ specialty is as a defender in the running game. He would join Kiko Alonso, Manny Lawson and recent signing Keith Rivers in the linebacker corps for the Bills. With Buffalo moving Alonso to the outside linebacker position, Spikes appears destined to plug into the middle of the Bills’ defense.

Spikes had worn out his welcome in New England. The Patriots placed him on injured reserve prior to the AFC Championship against Denver after showing up late for practice.
