Jared Allen will visit the Cowboys on Tuesday

Allen

Sunday night, we pegged the a team that can’t even finagle a wild-card playoff berth as a wild card for defensive end Jared Allen.

Ed Werder of ESPN has since reported that, indeed, Allen will visit with the Cowboys. Specifically, Werder reports that the visit will happen on Tuesday, and that it will involve Cowboys coaches.

According to NFLPA records (which routinely conflict with the NFL’s official calculations), the Cowboys currently have $7.2 million in cap space. Keep in mind, however, that the Saints were able to give safety Jairus Byrd a contract worth $9 million per year with a cap number of only $3.13 million in 2014.

Allen definitely would fill a need in Dallas. If his goal is to win, however, it makes more sense to replace Chris Clemons in the rotation of high-end pass rushers in Seattle.

Maybe he just wants to know how much he’s leaving on the table if he decides to take less money to play for a team far more likely to make it to Allen’s adopted state of Arizona in February.
