There’s still no news to report about a new wide receiver joining the Panthers, but the team has brought back a pair of players from their defense.

The Panthers announced that they have re-signed cornerback James Dockery, who was not tendered a contract as a restricted free agent, and linebacker Jason Williams.

Dockery played five games for the Panthers last season as a broken thumb and shoulder injury cost him playing time during the regular season. He joined the team during the 2012 season and started a pair of games down the stretch, so he could find his way into playing time on a cornerback depth chart that’s in flux in Carolina.

Williams has been strictly a special teams player for the last couple of years, but he’s made an impact in that area. He blocked a punt in a victory over the Jets last season and has 10 tackles in kick coverage over the last two seasons. More of the same is likely in store for Williams in 2014.
