Charles Brown scheduled to visit with Giants

The Giants have been somewhat uncharacteristically busy buyers on the free agent market this offseason and it doesn’t look like they’re ready to slow down.

Adam Caplan of ESPN reports that the team has scheduled a visit with tackle Charles Brown. Brown entered the league as a 2010 second-round pick of the Saints, spent the last four seasons in New Orleans and began last season as the starting left tackle.

He remained in that role for 14 weeks, but was benched after Rams defensive end Robert Quinn abused him in a December game. Rookie Terron Armstead replaced Brown in the lineup and held onto the job through the Saints’ playoff loss to the Seahawks. That pretty much signaled the end of Brown’s time in New Orleans.

The Giants have Will Beatty coming off a rough year of his own at left tackle and rookie Justin Pugh was at right tackle when the season ended, leaving an opening for an experienced swing tackle who could jump into the lineup if needed.

  1. I’m gonna guess this guy is tired of hearing the “Lucy yanked away the football at the last second” jokes by now.

  2. Lol, they already have Linus and snoopy (eli) on the team, Charlie Brown would be an upgrade

  3. Charles really is a decent OT. Quinn beat him up, but that was really the only truly bad game he had all year. Payton must’ve just been waiting for a reason to get Armstead in there. I think somebody will get Charles Brown on the cheap and be pretty happy with him.

  4. I wish bear pascoe would just eat until week one and gain like 40 pounds because he’s a stellar blocker and would be a top tackle if he had the size.

  5. Do not know why the Saints did not consider trying him at RT (in case Zack Strief had not re-signed), or as a swing tackle. Decent tackles with starting experience do not grow on trees. I wonder if he is not all that great a presence in the locker room. Either way, he is in Payton’s dog house, and a change of scenery might be best for all concerned.

  6. Sean Payton saw enough of Brown during that Rams game to know that you can’t have a guy at left tackle have a bad game like that…ever. When you have a HOF quarterback the #1 priority has to be protection.

If the Giants sign him they will need Eli to keep his head on a swivel.

  7. Brown is a lot better than you guys r giving him credit for he played RT his 1st 3 yrs and was still learning LT last season yea he got whooped in that gm against the Rams but truthfully the team as a whole was gettin whooped go back and watch the Miami gm , the Atlanta gm’s, the Pat’s gm … the point is he held his own most of the season… Sean Payton was trying to make-up for the yr he missed and had a short leash on everybody … go look uo the stats there were quite a few guys that gave up more sacks than he did…
