The Titans are bringing back a skilled returner who’s battled injuries the last two seasons.

The club said Wednesday it has reached a one-year contract with wide receiver Marc Mariani, who made the Pro Bowl as a kick returner as a rookie in 2010. However, he missed the 2012 season with a broken leg, and he missed the 2013 campaign with a shoulder injury.

The Titans are deep in the return game, with Mariani, Dexter McCluster and Leon Washington among the club’s options. Mariani’s best shot to stick on the roster will be on the strength of his special teams play. It would help if the Titans had McCluster — a Pro Bowl punt returner in 2013 — focus on offense.
