The 49ers have extended the contract of their top blocking back.

The club said Thursday it had signed fullback Bruce Miller to a new three-year deal. The 27-year-old Miller started 13 games for the 49ers in 2013, catching 25 passes for 243 yards and rushing seven times for 13 yards before suffering a season-ending shoulder injury. He played 543 snaps, second-most among fullbacks, according to Pro Football Focus data.

“Bruce is a hard-working, dedicated young player that has done an outstanding job for us, both on and off the field,” 49ers G.M. Trent Baalke said in a team-issued statement. “He is one of those players that contributes a lot more to the team and to the community than he gets credit for, yet wouldn’t have it any other way. We are pleased that Bruce has chosen to extend his stay with the 49ers.”

ESPN’s Bill Williamson first reported Miller’s contract extension.
