Report: DeSean Jackson thinks he’s leaving Philadelphia

The Eagles have still not said whether DeSean Jackson has a future in Philadelphia. But Jackson doesn’t think he does.

That’s the word from Tim McManus of, who talked to two sources close to Jackson and reports that Jackson does not believe he will be back in Philadelphia this season.

The Jackson situation has been heating up for weeks. We first noted on March 5 that Jackson could be on the outs in Philly. That was initially strongly denied by the Philadelphia Inquirer, which reported that “almost a dozen sources” confirmed that Jackson would be staying with the Eagles.

Since then, however, there’s been one story after another saying that the Eagles putting out feelers about trading Jackson, and that Jackson is growing increasingly concerned that he has no future in Philadelphia. The Eagles, given many opportunities to make a public statement that they’re keeping Jackson, have declined to do so.

Jackson had a very good first season in Chip Kelly’s offense, but the $10.5 million he’s owed on his current contract appears to be more than the Eagles want to pay. Now the question seems to be less about whether Jackson has a future in Philadelphia than whether his tenure with the Eagles will end with him being traded, or released.

  1. Gee – you think he might have heard something about all the reports flying around yesterday?

Who knew that football players knew how to work the internets?

  2. We would be stupid to trade D-Jax!!!! DeSean/J-Mac/Cooper would be one of the most feared WR trios in the league!!!! Why would we trade a WR who just had almost 1400 yds?

  3. Just please trade him out of the division, preferably out of the conference as well. As a Giants fan I would love to see him gone…..say what you want about him but the guy is dangerous.

  4. He’s smart to get out Philly. Theyve always seemed like cheapskates and they dont seem to value their veterans. He’d be better off leaving. I bet the fans are gonna pout and hold their breath til they turn blue if he does go though.

  5. For years Andy Reid and Co got killed for making comments and then going back on their word when a good opportunity came up in the trade market. Now Chip and Co are saying nothing and they’re getting beat for it. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t I guess but let’s see where the chips land. They could get an offer they can’t refuse

  6. We could use him in Dallas on the practice squad. The Eagles have never won a Super Bowl. How sad.

  7. No Giants fan anywhere will be sad to see him go.

I would. he is one of the few players I would love to see go down helmet to helmet by one of our DB’s.

I loathe this guy and it sounds like his own teammates do too….

  8. This team’s blown money on total bust free agents over the last 5 years, as soon as they have to pay a young stud it’s an issue. Funny

  9. Wow the Eagles would be stupid to trade Jackson. Riley Cooper ain’t nothing special, Maclin might not be the same, Sproles was a good addition but didn’t have many break out games last season. Who knows if Foles is really the answer, I don’t think so. Good job eagles.. Even if Jackson stays he won’t be the same with all the reports. From division winners to last in 2014 for the eagles.

  11. This entire thing is about him not being your suitable #1 receiver. Teams want a tall big body receiver. Hes just to short to play outside all the time. Amazing talent, probably fastest guy in the NFL but its just not in the cards for the eagles. 10 mil for someone who plays the slot more often is just to much. But for how much of a playmaker he is…its really a tough decision to make.

  12. The Patriots trade DT Vince Wilfork and a 4th round draft pick to aquire WR Desean “Jaccpot” Jackson.

  13. “Who knew that football players knew how to work the internets?”

At the very least, we know that Jackson knows how to work Twitter. That is, unless he has his “personal assistant” do the tweeting for him 🙂

  14. As we speak, the niners, pats, raiders and jets are in a bidding war. It’s just a matter of how many #1s the eagles will get

  15. Typical media. They create the rumor, fuel it, spread it. Use team’s refusal to address it as bogus confirmation.

Player, who like all players seem to these days, lives on social media. Player sees non stop tweets and messages with links to all of the rumors and articles. Player becomes convinced, BECAUSE OF THE MEDIA, that rumors must be true.

Media uses players belief in rumor that they started as confirmation that said rumor is true.

Media continues to circulate and grow rumor, player gets angry, causes trouble with management, demands trade.

Player is traded, media says- See? Told ya So!

  16. I would like to give the media a slow clap here. While they might think they are winning the battle of “DeSean Jackson Getting Traded, or Released, or Eh… Yeah, the First One” because stupid people believe whatever they read, but what they don’t understand is that, just because you say something and like a bazillion people read your articles doesn’t make it so. It is like you people post things just because you can, not because it has any possibility of happening.

Now, could DeSean get traded? Sure he can, that was always a possibility, but what does the media classify as possible compensation? A 3rd round pick? You might as well buy a leaky canoe and invite your lady on it for a booze cruise. Lets just say, she won’t like it very much. Now if a team like the Raiders or the Rams offered the Eagles their first overall pick in this draft (#2 or #5) respectfully, the Eagles would immediately pounce because it ensures that they can get the rights to Sammy Watkins or Marques Lee AND that rookie Safety or DE that they need.

But no, the media doesn’t want to tell us this, they want to site two “unnamed” sources from Jackson’s camp because they can read his mind? It would be funny if Jackson was playing everybody like Chip and Howie are. And when this sad excuse for news turns out to be just a rumor, we will all have the last laugh at the joke that is national and local sports media! Stay classy guys!

  17. Chip plays the sports-media as well as Rachmaninov played the piano.

    ( look it up )

vegasgreek, LOL, LOL you sound exactly like my 3 yr. old who says “he’s” being laughed at. LOL, LOL. Raiders fans. Priceless!

  19. …STILL havent hears one word from Desean, Chip or Howie’s mouth. Only “sources”. Until then… I dont care.

  20. Telesco make a move ! Imagine floyd and jackson on the outside with my boy keenan allen in the slot then woody and mathews out the backfield and ladarius green and gates :,) and I havent even mentioned vincent brown danario alexander and donald brown yet! Watch out seaderall we coming for that crown

  21. Not sure why they need to trade him. He is a top WR and this is a passing league, right?

    I would keep him.

  22. I could definitely see DJax in silver and black. This is a DEEP WR class, and I’m sure Kelly would like his own guy instead of a PITA. Plus, if they draft somebody – comes in at rookie pay scale.

  23. The time to spend money is now Raiders. Matt Schaub throwing the long ball to him would be like Daryle Lamonica throwing to Warren Wells and yes as a fan I can go back that far.

  24. He needs to go to Oak Town, maybe Too Short can help him with his rap career. Shock G already said he’s a buster, but Raiders will pay for his next 2 years until he is out of football. 1 hit its over. Marshawn Linch is keepin up the CAL name.

  25. By the end of the weekend he would be a NY Jet. The Patriots 49ers and Panthers dont have enough money or Picks for DeSean. The Raiders and Jets could asorb the cap. But one thing the Jets got Michael Vick. His Buddy DrSean would be coming. Jets would offer a Third round pick. (2 3rd rounds now) would get it down. Or a player. Sorry eagles but we getting him for cheap

  26. “He’d be the best receiver Dallas had. Bryant is over rated. Like every other player Dallas has”

I’m no Dallas fan but if you think Bryant is overrated
then just haven’t been paying attention.
