Seahawks have “no interest at all” in DeSean Jackson

AP

Amid a report that the Seahawks have expressed interest in Eagles receiver DeSean Jackson, a source with direct knowledge of the team’s thinking tells PFT that the Seahawks have “no interest at all” in Jackson.

The Seahawks are one of several teams that have been linked to Jackson.  The 49ers have denied a report that they have interest in Jackson.  Jets owner Woody Johnson has said that his team is interested.

It never made sense for the Seahawks to be interested in Jackson, given the financial commitment already made to receiver Percy Harvin, and the looming necessity of paying cornerback Richard Sherman, safety Earl Thomas, and quarterback Russell Wilson.

  1. That’s a classic example of “playing hard to get” which is a socially branded and generally accepted term. Implies they very much are interested. Cuff ’em.

  2. They’re only saying that to keep from getting whacked for tampering.

So naturally they’ll sign him soon.

  3. They will be interested if/when they have to play against him twice a year…..possibly 3 times.

  4. Well, they don’t have a qb that can get him the ball, unless he hands it off to him so it makes sense.

  5. seahawks win because they have a relatively inexpensive young player salary structure, a team first culture, a very very good defense, a very good qb and a great running game. an overpaid, diva, selfish WR isn’t a fit.

well that is a 2nd one isn’t. they already have percy harvin.

  6. I’m not believing a damn thing until something is actually done as far as a trade. Here in Philly they get off on drama so I wouldn’t be too surprised if the media blew this out of proportion just to have something to write about. I’m tired of all these so called “sources” leaking this so call inside info. Source your sister as my boy Mikey Miss would say. Until I hear something directly from the Novacare complex I’m done with all this BS. I trust what Chip is doing, if he does move Jackson best believe he will be adding someone just as fast with a lot less me first attitude.

  7. Cap space is not an issue for the Seahawks. As of now, they have $15.3 million in cap space for 2014 and $51 million for 2015, and that’s with the cap estimated at $140 million for 2015. It will probably be more like $145. They have plenty of space to sign Sherman, Wilson, Thomas and Okung, among others. They could cut Harvin in 2015 and save $5.7 million against the cap.

The idea that the Seahawks have a looming cap problem is a myth, just like “the whole team takes PED’s,” “you can run on the Seahawks,” “they’re weaker at corner without Brandon Browner,” and their receivers are “pedestrian.

  8. You say it never made sense for the Seahawks to be interested yet you’ve reported on it for the past week.

  9. Kind of obvious. No way they could afford Jackson with all those huge raises coming up. As is, IMO, this is the last year that Seattle has with THIS team. Not saying they won’t be contenders next year, but no way they can keep the team together.

Even if they all take team friendly contracts. With what Byrd just got, Thomas would be doing them a favor taking 7 mil. Sherman would be doing them a favor taking 12. Wilson would be doing them a favor taking 15. Maybe they can keep 1 of them without losing too much. But if they keep 2 or 3, they are going to have to make MAJOR changes in the rest of the roster

  10. For Jackson’s sake, I hope he doesn’t get traded to the New York Jets. He should just retire if that’s the only alternative. Geno is the worst QB in the AFC.

    #gobills

  11. It was nothing more than gamesmanship. Potentially driving up the price if the 49ers wanted to make a move.

And for the record, I do think the Niners are going to make a VERY large splash here soon. They know that the window for winning a SB is slowly shutting.

  12. As a huge eagles fan and nfl fan I’m glad that someone who got overpaid but surprisingly lived up to their contract in one of the years is going to be let go. I believe this is happening because within minutes of being eliminated he mentioned a new contract. He’s the product of a system

  13. The Seahawks want players that will buy into two things…. “we”…and “competition”. I don’t see much of either in Jackson. Let him go to San Fran where he can bang heads with Harblow.

  14. As a diehard Eagles fan, I still adamantly believe that all of this talk about getting rid of Desean is a load of crap. The ONLY logic I see in parting ways with Jackson is avoiding the $10.2 Mil we would otherwise owe him. I felt as if Desean earned his stay in Philadelphia last season with a very productive year, and moving forward I expected the emergence of Chip Kelly and Nick Foles to pay dividends for the productivity of Desean Jackson. Riley Cooper and Jeremy Maclin are both dynamic receivers in their own right, but to have Desean around to absorb a lot of the defensive focus…it really helps to open things up underneath for the rest of the receiving core, TEs alike.

DONT KICK JACKSON TO THE CURB, SHOW HIM SOME RESPECT AND KEEP HIM AROUND PHILADELPHIA!

  15. Why would they want this disgruntled cancer?
Same with the Niners. Two of the best lockerooms in the NFL.

    Pass.

  16. Now pay attention Woody.

If you say you have no interest – not tampering

If you say you have interest – that’s tampering

If watching Spinal Tap taught you one thing it’s that there’s a fine line between stupid and clever.

  17. I would love to see Jackson as a Seahawks. BTW, I thought Jared Allen promised a decision this weekend. I am not surprised a Viking broke a promise.

  18. Harvin is due 13.4 mill next season. We’re already out a third and seventh round pick. I can’t believe some foolish beat writer actually thought this was a realistic move

  19. I hope this moves howie and chip closer to realizing were not going to be able to pull off a desirable trade deal for him. He is too expensive and no one is giving us a 3rd rounder in this draft. Cutting him is the worse thing you can do you’re essentially giving up your best passing threat (who by the way just came off his best year) which makes zero sense to me. Keep him, SPEAK TO HIM MAN TO MAN and explain to him he is not getting more money.

  20. I think when a 28 year old WR has a year with 82 rec 1,332 yards and 9 TDs and only 1 fumble and the team, who has plenty of cap space does not want him..there is a reason BUYER BEWARE!

  21. As a forty-whiner hater, I wish they would. I would love to see him “take the top” off of the aging mediocre defense that the window is rapidly closing on in SF. Go Hawks!

  22. Wow. Why would you pay russell? he’s not top 5 ….

Come to a real team like Minny-Soda where u can win a ring DeSean with a Real QB

    Top 5 qb’s
    1.Matt Cassell
    2.Christian Ponder (Steele)
    3.Joe Webb
    4.Brett favre
    5. Josh Freeman

    In That Order

And join the best wr core in the league

    Top 5 wrs

    1.Greg Jennings
    2.Jerome Simpson
    3. Cordarrelle Patterson
    4.Jarius Wright
    5.Desean Jackson

    In That Order

    Boom. Championship!

  23. Jackson is disappointed. If you’re a Seahawks receiver, you can draw defensive pass interference by hitching a piggy back ride on a defender. If you blatantly shove a defender from behind, it won’t be called. You can catch touchdowns even when it’s intercepted by the other team.

  24. Really??? Anyone who follows the hawks already knew this. We have Super Bowl champs to sign. Guys we know can lead to a championship. Keep earl and Russell.

  25. yeah right, they were interested, they just found out that they were about to get in trouble for tampering so they pulled out like the 49ers

  26. Arceto clark will return punts and 6-5 24yr old 220lb chris mathews will take over tates spot. I see baldwin harvin kearse mathews and clark if we dont draft a wr a.d go o line first 2 picks. lockett and bates are solid at wr and we dknt need a te. lets get the o line done this year thats the only weakness.

  27. Not surprised because if they can’t keep Golden Tate, how could they afford to get Desean. The only teams that can really afford to get him and give up that 3rd or 4th is the Jets, Raiders and Browns.

  28. Jackson’t agent, trying to get his client more money

If Philadelphia is lucky, they’ll get a 3rd round pick for him, maybe the Jets or Raiders have the cap space to sign him for $10 million a season, but no contender does.

  29. The dream team will be torn apart. Sad really. But that’s what egotistical selfish players do.. Demand more money. Good luck paying all of them. Hope you win it again this year or you may be done for quite some time.

  30. They already have an over paid made of glass wr that plays when he wants to! That would be foolish to get harvin company for the bench.

  31. I cant believe people thought this was a possibility, never trust a story that begins with “According to Jason La Canfora”

  32. So those who say they’re interested are tampering. Those saying they’re not are definitely not?
    makes sense…..hacks.

  33. It also doesn’t hurt that the kid has an attitude problem, something that most clubs are staying away from.

    The era of the “ALL ABOUT ME AND MY STATS” is gone now, if you can’t coexist with the team, they’re either shipping you off to somebody else or they’re throwing you out of the league. {ala Terrell Owens}
The teams and fans are tired of the diva stuff, especially if you haven’t done anything of yet.

  34. That doesn’t suprise me. They know that their D is why they won. Their has to be a reason why Philly is trying to unload this clown. Who leaves a quarter mill in their house? Then it got “robbed”? I’m sure it didn’t hurt to tell everyone you want to renegotiate a new contract that you had cryed to get 2 years before. Really could you imagine going to your boss and asking for another raise when I just got one? Well vicky is out of here with Cheese-Jax right behind. It’s Always sunny here 🙂

  35. mesean and craptree.Yikes ! Pasadena

Puzzy Harvin[migraine specialist] and Mesean together? Why would anyone wreck the locker room like that? Why do teams put up with that stuff? I certainly don’t blame Philly for not wanting to deal with a brooding quitter Diva. A well balanced team can do better. Not surprised That Pete Carroll is not interested.

  36. Makes sense to me.

Though he has skills, DJax would likely prove, in the long run, at least, a head case who is more trouble than he is worth.

Good teams start with good management. Seattle’s GM John Schneider is the best in the league. He’ll find a replacement for 81. GTate wasn’t such a big loss.

Personnel is still largely intact following the Hawks’ dominating SB Victory.

    Brilliant work, John Schneider!

  37. I can’t believe anyone has interest in this idiot, he’s just not worth the trouble.

  38. Funny now that the Hawks are set up to be a decade long dynasty with 5-6 SB wins, every player and agent out there wants to be associated.

  39. “It never made sense for the Seahawks to be interested in Jackson, given the financial commitment already made to receiver Percy Harvin, and the looming necessity of paying cornerback Richard Sherman, safety Earl Thomas, and quarterback Russell Wilson.”

Sure didn’t stop you guys from reporting it as fact though did it?

  40. Maybe all these rumors are coming for DeSean Jackson’s camp. It’s been more than a year since he’s cashed a signing bonus and i’m sure his rap label needs more money for champagne parties.

  41. He’s going to the Hawks, I would say the same thing to throw off the colluding owners from stopping the champs from re-upping. HTTR

  42. The Bucs will make a play for him since they just freed up some more money by trading Zuttah.

    #gobucs #nfcsouthchamps

  43. How is expressing no interest in a specific player under another team’s contract any different than expressing interest in a specific player under another team’s contract?

  44. The funny part of this is that the clown will get cut and make less money and be less productive. All because he can’t shut up.

  45. jayniner says:
They will be interested if/when they have to play against him twice a year…..possibly 3 times.
    ————————————————–
He’ll get shut down, just like every other receiver the Seahawks face.

^^^^^^I NEEDED TO LAUGH THIS MORNING AND THANK YOU TOO CLOWNS FOR GIVING IT TOO ME!

  47. ESPN Panthers reporter David Newton says Carolina won’t have interest in DeSean Jackson even if the Eagles release him.

That’s cold but it sounds like some fans are more attached to DJax than GMs or coaches.

Hawks don’t need a clown like that to win…

    ————-

No they just need a much bigger clown like Sherman

  49. The Eagles want to trade Jackson. Why would they report the Seahawks for tampering?

The Eagles have been pretty public about what the price is.
