Chip Kelly “likes” DeSean Jackson, but there’s a “but” there too

As Florio pointed out previously, the individual dispatches on the minute-to-minute status of DeSean Jackson’s relationship with the Eagles ultimately might mean nothing at all.

But when pressed on the subject Wednesday morning at the NFC coaches breakfast, Eagles coach Chip Kelly gave the best indication yet that assuming the wide receiver will be back isn’t safe.

“I like DeSean, . . . but we are gonna do what’s best for the team,” Kelly said, via Geoff Mosher of CSNPhilly.com.

Many other things were said, most of which weren’t really statements at all.

Kelly evaded questions about whether he thought Jackson would be on the roster on April 21 when the team begins offseason workouts, saying he’s not sure if anyone would (somebody should be there to unlock the place, just in case).

“I don’t have an answer for you,” Kelly said at one point in the interrogation.

That’s mostly because at this point, there is no answer.

Whether Jackson’s telling teammates things, or posting photos online, every sign still points to Jackson playing for a team not the Eagles. Kelly’s words this morning do nothing to dispel that impression.
