Jacoby Ford, Rich Ohrnberger visit with Jets

Cornerback Dimitri Patterson wasn’t the only free agent to visit with the Jets on Monday.

Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports that wide receiver Jacoby Ford and guard/center Rich Ohrnberger also met with the team.

The Jets’ interest in Ford was reported a couple of weeks ago, but he had not visited with the team before Monday. Ford played for current Jets wide receivers coach Sanjay Lal in Oakland and is coming off a year that saw him catch 13 passes in 14 games for the Raiders. Ford missed the entire 2012 season with a Lisfranc injury, but flashed good speed as both a receiver and kick returner before the injury.

The Jets have signed Eric Decker this offseason and Jeremy Kerley will likely retain a leading role at receiver, but the rest of the group will sort itself out over the rest of the offseason and summer.

Ohrnberger played 13 games and started once for the Chargers last season. With guards Willie Colon and Brian Winters and center Nick Mangold returning for the Jets, Ohrnberger would likely be looking at a reserve role with the Jets.

  1. Ohrnberger would be a good signing for the Jets, I wanted him to come back to SD. He played really well in the playoff game against the Bengals when Hardwick went down early.

  2. In his first year with us, Ford had an amazing year, was great with the deep ball, then injury set in the next year and he didnt play. Then last year he started to get healthy, then caught a case of the dropsies. Coulda swore he was gonna be a star based on his 1st year. Bummer it didnt work out. He’s small but he has speed and hes young. Hopefully he can resurrect his career with someone.

  3. He’s a little fire plug, but if you think DMC is hurt a lot, this guy is right up there with him.

  4. Sorry that Ford never really panned out in Oakland. He had a couple of great games; operative words ‘a couple’.
If he can ever stay healthy, he’s a gamer.

  5. Ford kept dropping WR screens last year, or catching them and then fumbling them. Seemed to have lost his taste for contact. Raiders fans remember Johnnie Lee Higgins, this guy was the same.

  6. Giving Ford a shot to make the roster can’t hurt. I imagine he could be had for close to the league minimum. He definitely flashed some good stuff before he got hurt, but Lisfranc injuries are bad news.

  7. Way to go NY Jets, you have the second most cap space in the league and your targeting Jacoby Ford,Get ready for another sad year, and this is coming from a Jets fan lol.Jacoby Ford puts the S in scrub

  8. Besides decker who is a decent number 2 receiver, and Michael Vick who is a decent starter/backup (I only put backup because the guy has only stayed healthy for ONE full season in his long career), the Jets offseason has been hilarious. As a pats fan, they NEED to be looking for another playmaker to take the coverage off of decker to be successful (I.e. djax). Otherwise it’s going to be ANOTHER long season, especially with the corner the pats have and the lack of offensive punch the jets currently display…

  9. Yeah sure because the Jets still beat the Pats last year with ZERO playmakers by running the ball down their throats and they should have swept them with the likes of Ivory and Bilal Powell!!

So glad you find this offseason hilarious because I am tickled pink too! And Jets have about 10 draft picks and still wayyy under the cap. Too bad Brady and Bellichick got fat after winning SB about 12 years ago and have teased NE fans ever since…

  10. Jacoby Ford.. I hear he’s a really nice guy. Can’t play worth a damn and can’t stay healthy but he’s a great guy to have on the sidelines which is exactly where he would be. These moves are ridiculous.
