Our not-so-long wait to find out what number wide receiver DeSean Jackson will wear with the Redskins has come to an end.
As speculated when wide receiver Aldrick Robinson said he was switching from No. 11 to No. 15 for the coming season, Jackson has been issued No. 11 by the team. The question of what number Jackson would wear became a brief story after Jackson signed in Washington because the wideout said it had not been decided whether he or quarterback Robert Griffin III would wear the No. 10 that they’ve worn throughout their NFL careers.
To no great surprise, the number is staying with Griffin and fans will have to adjust to the sight of Jackson in a different number as well as a different uniform.
Another Redskins quarterback is changing his number, however. Kirk Cousins will move from No. 12 to No. 8, his college number, so that free agent acquisition Andre Roberts can wear the same number he wore with the Cardinals. Roberts is making a $12,000 donation to Cousins’ football camp as part of the switch.
“That way he can get his number, I can get a great number that means a lot to me — and my camp will really benefit,” Cousins said, via the team’s website. “So everbody wins, I think.”
Quarterback Rex Grossman was No. 8 last season, but he is currently a free agent and the addition of Colt McCoy likely means he won’t be back in Washington.
