The Falcons have signed former Jaguars safety Dwight Lowery, the club said Tuesday.
A former cornerback, the 28-year-old Lowery could vie for a starting role in the Atlanta secondary, which had lacked an experienced safety to pair with William Moore. The Falcons released starting safety Thomas DeCoud in March.
Lowery (5-11, 212) started the first three games for the Jaguars in 2013, then was placed on injured reserve with a concussion. The Jaguars waived him with an injury settlement in November.
Lowery played for the Jets for three seasons (2008-2010), then was traded to the Jaguars in September 2011. He has intercepted 10 passes in his NFL career and has appeared in 68 games (41 starts).
