For most teams, the coach decides who’ll play. With the Jets, it’s broader than that.

Coach Rex Ryan, who sat for an interview during last month’s league meetings, talked about the team’s process for choosing between quarterback Geno Smith and Mike Vick as the starter.

“We’ll always make it as an organization,” Ryan said in a sit-down that will be televised on Wednesday’s Pro Football Talk on NBCSN. “Everything we do will be an organizational decision whether, you know, I’m the guy that ultimately says, ‘this guy is the guy’ or whatever in front of everybody. Believe me, it is a collaborative effort. Marty Mornhinweg as our offensive coordinator, great offensive coordinator, [we] will lean heavily on him [and] in my opinion, the best quarterbacks coach in football, David Lee. . . . That decision’s a New York Jet decision and at the appropriate time we’ll make that decision.”

Though Ryan named no other names, G.M. John Idzik could, in theory, have a role in the “organizational decision,” since he runs the football organization.

For the full interview with Ryan, dial us up at 5:30 p.m. ET on NBCSN. We’ll also have the league meetings interview with Dolphins G.M. Dennis Hickey. We’ll also discuss which team has the best shot at dethroning the Patriots atop the AFC East.

Brandon Spikes surely would pick the Bills. Let us know your pick.
