On Sunday, 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith was arrested for claiming that he had a bomb while in an airport security line.

On Monday, formal charges won’t be filed. And formal charges may not be filed for quite some time.

“Since he bailed out, it may be a while before any charges are presented to our office for filing consideration,” a spokesman for the L.A. district attorney told Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area.

Smith was released on $20,000 bail. The 49ers must decide by May 3 whether to pick up the fifth-year option on Smith’s rookie contract.

The fourth-year pro separately faces DUI charges and felony weapons charges.
