The Rams are taking a close look at former Clemson receiver Sammy Watkins, a potential selection with the second overall pick.
Watkins is visiting the Rams today and will also work out for them on Friday, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
Rams coach Jeff Fisher has said he likes the receivers the Rams have, but that doesn’t mean he wouldn’t like his receiving corps even better if he could add Watkins. Not only is Watkins considered the best prospect in this year’s draft, but he’s considered the best receiver prospect to enter the NFL in the last few years, at least since 2011, when A.J. Green went fourth overall and Julio Jones went sixth overall.
There’s also been talk that the Rams could trade down from No. 2 overall, and that the Lions may love Watkins enough to move up to get him. If the Rams stay put, their pick would likely be Watkins, South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney or Auburn offensive tackle Greg Robinson.
