Stephen Jones on Manziel: We haven’t sorted out the quarterbacks yet

If the Cowboys were interested in drafting Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel next month, you wouldn’t expect anyone from the team to confirm it publicly.

There has been talk about reported interest, however, and that means the question is going to be asked. Executive vice president Stephen Jones got it during an appearance on KRLD on Monday and was predictably vague. He said that making a call on Manziel will require the team to make their assessments of all the draft’s quarterbacks and he says that’s something the team hasn’t done yet.

There’s not anything I can say about it,” Jones said, via the Dallas Morning News. “We haven’t quite gotten into sorting out the quarterbacks yet, that will come, in terms of finalizing our board.”

As mentioned during our look at Dallas’ draft needs, quarterback is a position that the Cowboys could address with one of their 11 picks. Tony Romo is 34 and coming off back surgery, which has to make you at least consider a succession plan that includes a more appealing option for the future than Brandon Weeden, Caleb Hanie or the possibly retiring Kyle Orton.
