Falcons coach Mike Smith recently expressed confidence that wide receiver Julio Jones was going to be with the team for “a long, long time.”
It’s going to be at least two more seasons.
According to Jay Glazer of FOX Sports, the Falcons picked up the fifth-year option on the recovering wide receiver’s rookie contract.
Jones is still working his way back from last year’s foot surgery, but is expected to be ready for the start of the regular season.
If the Falcons are intent on giving him a long-term deal, and they should, the option won’t amount to anything but a formality.
