Quarterback Michael Vick decided he wanted to wear No.1 with the New York Jets as his long time jersey number, No. 7, is being worn by current Jets starter Geno Smith.

However, the No. 1 jersey was also currently occupied by a player already on the team. Punter Ryan Quigley wore No. 1 for the Jets last season and Vick came to Quigley asking what he would want in exchange for the number.

According to Kristian Dyer of the Yahoo Sports, Quigley agreed to a deal in exchange for the number. Vick would donate $10,000 to a pair of charities: Teen Angel of North Myrtle Beach, a charity that supports homeless teenagers, and to the Boys and Girls Club of New York.

“$10,000 is a lot of money, especially for a guy like me early in my career. For a second, I thought that but then I thought that I can do some good with it. You can give back in so many ways and money is one way,” Quigley said.

Vick was debating between the No. 1 and No. 8 before coming back to Quigley and asking for his jersey number.

“$10,000 is a lot of money,” Quigley said. “I hope it helps a lot of people.”
