Richard Sherman thinks a “very nice deal” could be close

As the NFL Draft approaches, there’s other big business going on, and the Seahawks may be inching closer to their second big secondary deal of the spring.

According to Tom Pelissero of USA Today, Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman said he didn’t think he and the team were far apart on a “very nice deal.”

The Seahawks have also scheduled a press conference for this afternoon, without stating the reason.

While the initial reports that Sherman was close to a new contract were premature, the goal was to finish a deal before the draft, which starts in around 30 hours.

“They may go past the draft. They may not,” he said of the talks.

The former fifth-round pick figures to make him among the, if not the highest-paid corners in the league when the contract is complete. Coupled with the big extension for safety Earl Thomas, and the Seahawks will have had a big offseason before the draft begins.
