At No. 25, Chargers take TCU cornerback Jason Verrett

The Chargers desperately needed a cornerback, and in the first round of the 2014 NFL draft, they got one.

With the 25th pick, the Chargers selected cornerback Jason Verrett from Texas Christian University.

Verrett played very well at TCU was a first-team All-Big 12 selection in both 2012 and 2013, and he solidified his status as a first-round pick with a good showing at the Scouting Combine. Verrett is only 5-foot-9 and 189 pounds, but other than size he has everything teams look for in a corner.

In San Diego, Verrett will be expected to start right away. Currently Steve Williams, a fifth-round pick last year, is listed as a starter on the depth chart, and Verrett should push Williams aside and start in San Diego.
