Packers get last laugh with Ha Ha Clinton-Dix

The Packers did something unusual.

They didn’t trade down, and they found the safety help they needed.

The Packers used the 21st overall pick on Alabama safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, who could add the playmaker they need to help cover Lions first-round right end Eric Ebron and others.

Clinton-Dix is the kind of rangy safety they need in the back of a defense that improved this offseason, with the addition of Julius Peppers.

  1. Perfect pick for Ted Thompson and the Pack. Fills their greatest need AND is the best player available.

Green Bay finishes on top of the NFC North again in 2014. Nobody with a brain would ever question that.

  2. Aww, I feel sorry for him, you could clearly see that he was disgruntle with Packers picking him, probs didnt wanna play in really cold weather… We’ll see which was better safety in 2+ years later, Pryor or Dix.. Good pick Packers =)

  3. As an avid Alabama fan who watched every game, I can see Clinton-Dix is pretty good but hardly a gamechanger. At best, he will be a solid safety who allows you to check that position off as “adequate.” At worst, he will never adapt to the speed of the pro game.

  4. I was hoping for Mosley or Shazier, then the stupid steelers and ravens had to pounce on ’em.

Like they need any more linebackers on their teams.

But hey, we wound up getting the Free Safety we’ve needed since Nick Collins got injured.

  5. Wow, did anybody see the unhappy look on his face when he was picked? The only time I’ve ever seen somebody look more unhappy was when Eli Manning was drafted by the Chargers. I think the guy talking to him told him he better smile and act happy. He did beg the Eagles to draft him, I think that was the deal there.

He was a great player in the games I saw him play. He should be able to be really good in the NFL, even if he is pissed about going to GB.

    That’s cute.harrison smith>haha,Anthony Barr will be>clay Matthews.TURD BAY DEFENSE IS STILL LAUGHABLE.SKOL
Your D got lit up by the browns.

  7. What a surprise, the Packers choose yet another soft player. This is why the Packers lose to the 49ers year after year after year. Soft, finesse players can only get you so far.

  8. Chuck Woodson JR right there. Ha-Ha baby!!

Oh yeah, the Vikings are have already been mathematically eliminated from this years Playoffs!

  9. Those saying he was unhappy to go to GB?

He posted pictures of himself in Packers gear on April 26. Gear GB did not give him.

He’ll be fine and happy here in GB. Ain’t worried about his motivation/mind.

  10. I find it funny people are commenting about him being upset that he was drafted by GB. He has been a Packers fan his entire life. I’m sure it is just the worst thing that has ever happened to him.

That being said, This draft couldn’t of ended up much better. I wanted Shazier or Haha. Both filled big needs but Safety was by far the biggest need and they got one of the best safeties to come out in years.

GB just wiped out the Ebron pick.

  11. Poor Viking fans are back on this site. Most likely went to their headquarters, looked in their World Championship and left feeling just like the trophy case, empty inside. Now they think attack the Greatest team in the NFL will make them feel better. Well guess what; next year you will still walk away feeling empty when looking at your trophy case, and the Packers will still have a full trophy case, and could be doing something your team never has, bring the Lombardi back home.

  12. His reaction was priceless. He clearly wanted to be an Eagle. he looked so disappointment when he found out he was a packer. But at least he kept it straight and remained professional.

Ha Ha didn’t look to happy about getting drafted by Green Bay.

I’m not a body language expert myself, but let’s say you’re right. He’ll probably look a lot happier when he gets sized up for his Super Bowl ring.

  14. Have we ever found out why he was suspended at ‘Bama?

If I remember correctly, it was because he accepted a small “loan” from one of the coaches at ‘Bama.

  15. Ha Ha gonna get high after Packers Pick him…

ot long before the draft began, new Packers safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix posted a sponsored tweet for a phone-charging device.

In the background of the photo was a couch. On the cushion of the couch was a hand-rolled cigarette.

A cigarette that may or may not have contained something other than tobacco.

The curious situation didn’t seem to hurt his draft stock very much. Then again, there’s a chance that the photo didn’t make its way into many war rooms in the last few hours.

Teams typically don’t care if guys smoke marijuana. Teams become concerned only if, once caught smoking marijuana, they are able to stop.

Or, ideally, to be able to realize that anything that looks like a marijuana cigarette should be removed from the background of a photo to be posted on Twitter.

  16. Man these vikings and bears fans on here are just sore losers how many times have these 2 teams picked in the top 15 and they still arent any closer to winning a super bowl haha on that viking fans

  17. I suppose you’ve been used to being punished by everyone in the league for what, 50 some odd years?

And let the dust settle on our three Lombardis. Better than dust falling to the bottom of an empty trophy case.

  18. Good pick green bay..and chicago with fuller. Its quite clear that these teams are preparing for the lions high powered offense.

  19. Man, you know things are rolling your way when not only is the best next pick available…..exactly what your team requires. Great pick. Combined with the healthy returnees, the Packers are going to roll. Can’t wait.

  20. Looks like the premiere team in the NFL just added a premiere player! 13 time champions baby! 4 Lombardi trophies and continued dominance over that soft team in Minnesota! Have fun finishing last AGAIN Queenies!

  21. Gotta admit, this worked out pretty well for the Packers. the defense hasn’t been the same since it lost Collins. If the Joker there can have the same impact (and there is no real reason to believe he can’t), it will make the Packers that much better. I think this is the first time I have been complementary of a Packers 1st round pick since….. Well, you get the idea.

  22. Good pick and should be a sound player for the Pack. Plus the added benefit of having a first name cheesers should be capable of spelling.

  23. Packer Fans…Looks like you have a replacement for Morgan Burnette, by another Morgan Burnette. It’s obvious that the Packers were focused on Brandin Cooks, but the Cards swooped in at 20 to get him…

  24. I like Dix, but actually I wanted Pryor, hoping he would’ve fell to the packers. But Dix, will be fine, he may turn into a Leroy Butler, type player. I also can see the announcer saying, HA HA Jay Cutler, just threw a pick six to Clinton Dix!

  25. Another Packer Bust in the first round.

Let’s take a look at their brilliance over the years.

  26. Replacement for Morgan” I took the money and ran” Burnett…..LOL. If i could make a living out of making fun of the packers I would be a millionaire in a week or two!!!!

  27. The Packers own the North Division (particularly the Vikings.) This pick assures continued dominance. As bad as the Packers would seem to be (if you believed any of the hate on this site,) they still own the division. Why is that? Because they are that good, that’s why. Until it changes, nothing changes. Eat it haters.
