2014 NFL Draft trades: Day One

Here are the trades announced on the first day of the 2014 NFL Draft. Unless otherwise noted, all picks mentioned are 2014 selections:

1. The Browns traded the No. 4 overall selection to the Bills for the No. 9 pick, plus the Bills’ first- and fourth-round selections in 2015. At No. 4, the Bills took Clemson wide receiver Sammy Watkins. The Browns traded the No. 9 pick to Minnesota.

2. The Browns dealt the No. 9 selection and a fifth-round pick (No. 145) to the Vikings for the No. 8 pick. With the No. 8 pick, the Browns selected Oklahoma State cornerback Justin Gilbert at No. 8, while the Vikings took UCLA defensive end/outside linebacker Anthony Barr at No. 9.

3. The Cardinals traded the No. 20 selection to the Saints for the No. 27 pick and a third-round selection (No. 91). At No. 20, the Saints took Oregon State wide receiver Brandin Cooks. Seven picks later, the Cardinals took Washington State safety Deone Bucannon at No. 27.

4. The Eagles traded the No. 22 pick to the Browns for the No. 26 selection and a third-round selection (No. 83). The Browns selected Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel at No. 22. The Eagles took Louisville outside linebacker/defensive end Marcus Smith at No. 26.

  1. Its going to be an interesting season for the vikes. Could be back on the map like experts have stated after these two picks. Gonna be a really tough division. We must have a winning record within the division.

  2. The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother’s keeper. I will strike down upon thee with GREAT VENGEANCE and FURIOUS ANGER those who attempt to poison and destroy MY BROTHERS. You will know my name is the BROWNS when I lay my VENGEANCE UPON YOU!

  3. Browns… Drafting a shutdown corner to put in the same secondary as Joe Haden and Donte Whitner, possibly drafting their franchise QB, all while gaining another 1st Round Pick from the Bills for next year’s draft.

    Pretty excited.

  4. Great going Bills. You have spent 6 draft picks in the last two years to obtain 4 wide receivers. Oh yeah, and you still have 2012 3rd round draft pick TJ Graham, and Stevie Johnson.

You will let Johnson go for virtually nothing. Seems like you feel we are good enough that we wont need a first round pick last year. Ralph Wilson must be spinning in his grave.

  5. We almost had Ha-Ha fall to us.. damn you Green Bay!! Liked the trade down when our guy went off the board.

  6. There were five trades in the first round, and Cleveland was involved in three of them. Did someone watch “Draft Day” on Draft Day?

  7. A++ for farmer and the Browns . To get the bills 1st and 4th next year just to move back 5 spots and get the guy you wanted all along. HUge win. Then to moveup and grab what could be a franchise QB for basically Trent Richardson. (bust). Amazing draft so far by the browns.

  8. That means the Browns will pick #1 and #2 next year.
    When has that ever happened?

  9. Browns didn’t want to spend LT money on a RT so we trade down. Then, Browns swindle the Vikings by trading up with them to take the player they were eyeing out, Justin Gilbert. Manziel falls beyond the Cowboys and even further. Report says the Browns and Eagles had that trade decided in advance if that happened. A+ to the Browns. Outsmarted and did not overpay. Very unlike the last regime (trading up for Trent Richardson, picking Brandon Weeden #22 overall).

  10. I am a big Viking fan and I really like what they did in the first round. Serious envy to the browns the way they played this one this year. and having two first rounders next year as well…. cheers. Here’s to a greatly improved season.
