Bears reach deals with S Brock Vereen, QB David Fales

Just two days after the NFL Draft came to a close, the Bears have deals done with two of their picks.

The club said Monday night it had reached contract agreements with safety Brock Vereen and quarterback David Fales.

Both players received four-year deals.

A fourth-round pick from Minnesota, Vereen (6-0, 199) was timed at 4.47 seconds in the 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine. Vereen, who also played cornerback for the Golden Gophers, joins veterans Ryan Mundy, M.D. Jennings and Danny McCray as new additions to the Bears’ safety corps.

Fales (6-2, 212) will compete with veteran reserves Jordan Palmer and Jerrod Johnson. The sixth-round pick from San Jose State threw for 4,189 yards and 33 touchdowns in 2013.

The Bears are the first club to have announced agreements with any draft picks.

  1. Phil Emery is rarely one to drag his feet when it comes to contracts. He likes them out of the way sooner rather than later.

But he’ll wait as long as humanly possible before he tells someone he’s not going to re-sign them

  2. Awesome work with these signings I know Fales doesn’t have the big arm but he has all the entangables, will remind you of Aaron Rodgers without the big arm he’s a steal trust me!

  3. Bears have been among the fastest in the league with contracts for a while, even before Emery, thanks to their caps/contract guy Cliff Stein, among the best in the business.

  4. Not sure why more teams aren’t signing guys yet. These mid to late round guys are all getting 4 year minimum deals, it’s not like there is much negotiating to do

  5. love the vereen pick, watched this kid at minnesota and he is a gritty versatile player and a true leader in the secondary, was really hoping the vikings would give him a chance given their glaring holes in the back 4

  6. Good to hear…Vereen, Sutton, and Fuller may all be starters this year, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Fales wins the backup QB role.

Remains to be seen on Ferguson, though.

  7. Rex, who are you referring to? He notified Hester before pre season even started and he allowed veterans to test the market, only ones that came back were Tillman and Britton

  8. Meant to say Vereen, Fuller, and Sutton may all start this year, and Fales win the backup job. Not that they would be surprised if he does.

  9. Never mind…First post was correct, my PC is acting strange today and not displaying things right.
