Three former players who also have coaching or front office experience have been appointed to jobs with the league office, the NFL announced today.

Jimmy Raye II, Mike Reinfeldt and Mike Singletary will all serve as senior advisors to Troy Vincent, the executive vice president of football operations. They’ll serve as liaisons to NFL coaches and front office personnel and have duties related to the development of players and coaches.

Raye spent 36 years as a player and coach in the NFL. Reinfeldt was a Pro Bowl safety for the Houston Oilers and Oakland Raiders and later an executive for the Raiders, Packers, Seahawks and Titans. Singletary was a Hall of Fame linebacker for the Bears and a head coach of the 49ers.

Vincent said in a statement that the three players “bring sound wisdom, football experience and insight that helps us support our clubs and coaches as well as grow and develop our players and game.”

  1. If we’re talking the same Jimmy Raye that was a QB way back when and the Offensive Coordinator under Singletary with the Niners (I still get cold shivers), then have him do ANYTHING but offer input on the O Side of the ball and all will be cool.

  2. Reinfeldt, La’Roi Glover, and Stonewall Jackson are the three guys the Raiders let get away that they never should have.

  3. “We will be physical with an F”!

    “Don’t base a man’s entire career on a dad-gum Yahoo commercial!”

    You go Mike.

  4. Jimmy Raye was one of the worst offensive coordinators the 49ers have had.. I’m surprised people still let him around football after his debacle of a tenure in SF!

  5. Mike Singletary was one of the worst head coaches the 49ers have had.. I’m surprised people still let him around football after his debacle of a tenure in SF!

  6. Well neither Singletary or Jimmy the troll belong in coaching. This may actually be a great spot for them. Especially Singletary. Motivation wasn’t his issue
It was X’s and O’s and all that came with em. If not for Singletary VernonDavis might be the most popular assistant coach or art teacher at a Maryland high school right now.

  7. These guys are definitely qualified for something. Just not sure what exactly they would be doing? They are “liaisons” – what does that even mean? They answer Troy Vincent’s phone?
