Champ Bailey will live without being No. 24

Every offseason, there are stories about players giving up their uniform numbers to new teammates in exchange for cash, a donation to charity or some other compensation.

That’s especially true when the new teammate is a more established player, but not every player is willing to part with their digits. Saints cornerback Corey White is such a player. White is now playing with Champ Bailey, who has worn No. 24 throughout his career and approached White about giving up the number this season but White told Bailey he preferred to keep things as they are.
“I just got to live with it,” Bailey said, via the Baton Rouge Advocate. “I wasn’t going to make him an offer or anything like that. I’m not paying for anything. I think if the roles were reversed, I probably would’ve considered it, but he didn’t want to. It’s his own decision.”

Bailey will wear No. 27 instead and will compete with White to be the cornerback across from Keenan Lewis. If Bailey’s healthy, he should win that battle regardless of the number on his jersey during the competition.
