If you remember something about former Jets tight end Kellen Winslow’s arrest in New Jersey last year, it likely has to do with a Target parking lot, a search for Boston Market and two jars of Vaseline in the car.
Police responded to a call from a woman who said she saw Winslow masturbating in his car in the aforementioned parking lot, but police did not catch Winslow in that act. He was found to be in possession of synthetic marijuana, however, and the resulting charges moved toward dismissal on Thursday.
The Newark Star-Ledger reports Winslow was granted a conditional discharge on Thursday and the charges will be dismissed in a year if Winslow avoids arrest and makes regular visits to his probation officer. Winslow’s attorneys had argued that the charges should be dismissed because Fubinaca, the substance found in synthetic marijuana, was not listed as an illegal substance by the DEA until February. A judge rejected that argument, though, because New Jersey law already barred substances mimicking the effect of marijuana.
Winslow said he was happy with the decision because it frees him to pursue employment with an NFL team. Winslow had 31 catches for 388 yards and two touchdowns last season and served a four-game suspension for violating the performance-enhancing drug policy.
