Manziel’s agent says acceptance of hoax lawsuit reflects a “real problem” with system

Justice

Maybe justice really is blind. Stupid, too.

While the lawsuit filed in Florida against Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel will provide: (1) plenty of entertainment on what could have been a slow day before a holiday weekend; and (2) an array of terms that fans of opposing teams can use to chide him, from Long John Silvers to Vienna Sausage to “It’s a Small World,” the hoax complaint filed under the name of an HLN contributor never should have been dignified with the official application of a case number.

“Obviously, people can file whatever they want,” Manziel’s agent, Erik Burkhardt, told PFT on Friday morning. “Jokes notwithstanding, that’s a real problem.”

Compounding the problem is the fact that, as reported by Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the clerk of the court said the person submitting the lawsuit is a “frequent filer” who uses Samantha Schacher as an alias. If that’s the case, shouldn’t they be pulling (that may not be the best term in this context) anything that this person sent in for filing?

And if the clerk knows who’s doing it, shouldn’t that person be prosecuted for violation of one or more federal laws? Surely, federal laws have been violated.

Apparently, federal procedures weren’t. Those procedures need to change.
