49ers sign WR Bruce Ellington

The 49ers are almost all done with draft pick signings.

Wide receiver Bruce Ellington, whom the club selected in Round Four less than three weeks ago, is the latest rookie to sign with San Francisco, the club said Tuesday.

The 5-foot-9, 197-pound Ellington caught 49 passes for 775 yards and eight touchdowns for South Carolina in 2013. In San Francisco, Ellington will try to carve out a role in a WR corps laden with veteran talent, with Anquan Boldin, Michael Crabtree and Stevie Johnson the club’s top three options at the position.

The 49ers have now reached deals with 11 drafted rookies. Only third-round pick Marcus Martin, a center from USC, remains unsigned.

  1. Ellington played full time basketball and full time football at USC. SEC All Freshman in both sports. Still graduated in 3 1/2 years and was an All Academic selection every year. Not bad for one of a couple thousand residents of Monck’s Corner, S.C.

  2. Bruce had virtually the same totals last season as Alshon Jeffery did in his final season at S. Carolina. Same catch total, a few more yards, and same TD total. Be warned.

  3. Bout time ,kid is a great specialist WHOOT develop into a solid slot player . I don’t think offensively hell have much impact for you niners but on special teams he’ll contribute immediately. He’s a future stud with potential but he’s not beating out all those wrs for time.

  4. If Ellington proves he can handle the punt-return in the preseason, LMJ is definitely out of a job.

  5. And none of them will ever get open against the LOB! How’s second best, Santa Clara 49’ers?

  6. Lob has one great year and all of the sudden they are the 85 bears. Maybe this year they will not hulk out before each game. I don’t normally say much but sick of hearing about this gang great way to take something positive about your team and ruin it.

  7. Why is Santa Clara an insult? I don’t hear Seahawk fans harping on the East Rutherford Jets or East Rutherford Giants. How about the Arlington Cowboys or the Miami Gardens Dolphins?

Come on, guys. You’re better than that.

  8. Why are all these seagulls following the 5 time world champions articles and Post? I’ve never seen a niner fan follow any seagulls news or post. Jump on the band wagon, go ahead and follow us and learned from true champions. I love it when u follow us, it only shows fear in u seagulls. U cant get all the breaks all the time like the nfc championship game! U guys got out played and that’s what worries u for this season. Go ahead follow us all season. Were use to winning championships and playing in Super Bowls!!! The Quest for Six!!!

  9. Cannot wait for this offense to hit the field!

  10. I find it odd the focus a lot of Seahawk fans have on the 49ers…Always on our news making asinine comments. You guys need to pray for the rain to stop…Go outside and enjoy life. Leave 49er news alone…
