Lions take a look at veteran Derek Landri

For veterans not on a 90-man NFL roster at the moment, it’s a matter of getting in wherever you can.

And for journeyman defensive tackle Derek Landri, that might be Detroit.

The veteran lineman worked out for the Lions Tuesday, and is awaiting word from them.

“It was good to get out here and run around, do all that stuff,” Landri said, via Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press. “Haven’t done it in awhile.”

Landri was released by the Buccaneers in February, and has had stints with the Eagles (where he worked with Lions defensive line coach Jim Washburn), Panthers and Jaguars.

The Lions used a pair of draft picks on Larry Webster and Caraun Reid, and they were already relatively deep on the defensive line. But Landri’s a solid pro, and his background with Washburn makes him a good option depending on how much time Nick Fairley’s going to miss.
