The Falcons are down a veteran linebacker after losing Sean Weatherspoon to a ruptured Achilles tendon expected to end his 2014 campaign.
According to a published report, they are considering multiple potential free agent linebackers to help fill that void.
Via Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, Jonathan Vilma, Pat Angerer and Tim Dobbins are all on Atlanta’s radar. All three linebackers have experience in a 3-4 scheme, which Atlanta is expected to employ as its base defense.
The 32-year-old Vilma played the last six seasons for the Saints. He was limited to one game in 2013 because of a knee issue. According to Rapoport, the Falcons could bring in Vilma for a look if they believe he is healthy.
Dobbins, 31, played three games for Houston in 2013. The Texans parted ways with the eighth-year pro in October. He dealt with a hamstring injury last season.
The 27-year-old Angerer played the last four seasons with the Colts. Injuries have been the main concern with Angerer, who had offseason microfracture surgery on his knee, according to Alex Marvez of SiriusXM NFL Radio and Fox.
