Tony Romo says he’s just like Montana and Aikman, sort of

Tony Romo is certain he’ll come back from back surgery without complications.

And he’s using historical precedent to support that confidence.

Romo compared his back procedure to ones had by other top quarterbacks on the other side of 30.

I’ll be able to play for a while,” Romo said during an NFL Network interview, via the Dallas Morning News. “There are way too many cases where you see people come back; Troy Aikman had it – they won a Super Bowl the same season. Joe Montana comes back and wins two Super Bowls. They had the same surgery.”

Of course, there’s a slight possibility that they were better quarterbacks than Romo going into the operating room, and that might be the reason for the success rather than the surgery itself.

But as it pertains to the narrow question of coming back from a herniated disc, he has a point.

He’s been limited during OTAs, and is expected to ready for training camp. At which point he’ll begin leading the Cowboys to a Super Bowl.

Obviously.
