Could cornerback Brandon Flowers find a soft landing with one of his former club’s division rivals?
Flowers, whom the Chiefs released Friday, will meet with the Chargers on Wednesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reported.
A six-season starter with Kansas City, the 28-year-old Flowers would step right into a major role if signed by San Diego. Though the Chargers drafted a cornerback (Jason Verrett) in Round One of the 2014 draft, the club is still thin at the position.
The 5-foot-9, 187-pound Flowers has good ball skills, as evidenced by his 91 passes defensed and 17 picks in his pro career. Those traits, as well as his experience, likely make him attractive to the Chargers, who don’t put as much of a premium on size at the position as other clubs do.
