When the Falcons lost linebacker Sean Weatherspoon for the season last week, one of the veteran linebackers mentioned as a potential addition to the corps was Jonathan Vilma.

The Falcons got plenty of looks at Vilma during his run with the Saints and Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports that they are getting another one on Wednesday. Vilma will be working out for Atlanta, joining Tim Dobbins on the list of players with reported meetings with the Falcons in the wake of Weatherspoon’s torn Achilles.

Vilma spent all but one week of last season on injured reserve because of a knee issue that’s troubled him for several seasons. The knee likely contributed to an overall drop in Vilma’s play, so he’ll likely have to show he’s both healthy and capable for the Falcons’ interest to go beyond the workout.

Paul Worrilow, Joplu Bartu and Prince Shembo are in-house options for the Falcons, who have also been linked to Pat Angerer among available options on the veteran free agent market.
