San Diego Chargers defensive end Corey Liuget played all of last season despite a damaged shoulder that limited his effectiveness.

However, surgery to repair a torn labrum now has Liuget returning to full strength.

According Tom Krasovic of the San Diego Union-Tribune, Liuget says he’s stronger than he was at any point last season.

“Being able to get under the bench, it’s helping me now,” Liuget said. “I see the difference in actually pumping weights and everything.”

Liuget posted 42 tackles and 5.5 sacks for the Chargers last season despite playing through the injury. His numbers were down slightly from 2012, where he had 51 tackles and seven sacks.

Liuget is hoping to add some quickness as well by dropping some weight before training camp. He’s looking to play this season at 290 pounds for San Diego, down from the 300 pounds he’s currently listed at on the team’s roster.
