Report: Dolphins will meet with Daryn Colledge

The Dolphins didn’t return Andre Gurode’s phone call, but they may still have interest in adding a veteran offensive lineman to the mix after losing Mike Pouncey for at least three months after hip surgery.

Longtime football writer Jason Cole reports that Daryn Colledge will visit with the Dolphins in the near future. Colledge was cut by the Cardinals early in the offseason and has drawn smatterings of interest in the last few months without landing a job.

With 124 starts under his belt, Colledge has plenty of experience but almost all of it is at guard. Should he wind up in Miami, the team might take a look at Shelley Smith at center with Colledge at guard although there are a few ways the Dolphins could go in the wake of Pouncey’s surgery.

Colledge’s chances of landing with the Dolphins may be helped by the fact that he played for Miami coach Joe Philbin for five years when Philbin was the offensive line coach and offensive coordinator in Green Bay.

  1. The ‘phins need to maintain their sub-par OL play so this would be a perfect signing.

  2. Don’t do it dolphins. This guy SUCKS!! be prepared for untimely holding penalties and watching your quarterback be peeled off the turf in crucial game time situations. BEWARE.

  3. Actually the fact that Philbin knows him well should work against him. Colledge says all the right things but is sub-par when it comes to doing them.

  4. losing a o lineman and signing another does not mean they are signing him to start. you need depth, they could put one of thier in house players like gardner or brenner in at center but that leaves a vacancy for a backup lineman. if they do sign him i fully expect it is for depth only. i believe the younster brenner will get the job since he has been working at center since camp started this year and filled in for pouncey last season for a few games and was the only bright spot on that line.

and even if they did start colledge we can look at the brightside, still cant be worse than last year.

  5. Pouncey will miss 2-3 games and Sam Brenner can play Center and did a very decent job, Nate Garner can do it too. Finally, rookie Tyler Larsen will get a longer look now. We are set at Guard with Smith at RG and a battle for LG with Billy Turner and Dallas Thomas. Yes, we need Pouncey back, but if we set the line now and they work through Camp and Preseason together, we may be OK. Last year was a disaster with constant personnel changes. We have enough decent FA and Rookies and do not need another mediocre journeyman. It seems a story is contrived every time a player is available and has a link to Philbin.

  6. If Miami s looking to sign a backup, it would make ore sense to sign a hungry UDFA youngster. If a young’n plays well it would be gravy, if not he wouldn’t cost as much.
