Crabtree on Sherman: I don’t talk, I concentrate on football

AP

Michael Crabtree will not engage with Richard Sherman until their teams meet on the field.

Crabtree, the 49ers wide receiver who has a long history with Sherman, declined to get into it when he was asked this week about Sherman’s recent comments about his personal animosity toward Crabtree. Instead, Crabtree said he would rather focus on preparing to face Sherman on the field.

“I don’t get into talking about these guys. I concentrate on football. It’s my life. I don’t have too much to prove when it comes to talking on TV. I’m a baller,” Crabtree told ESPN.

Whether Crabtree and Sherman talk about each other or not, when they play each other it will be must-see TV. The first of their two regular-season meetings will be on Thanksgiving night in San Francisco. We know Sherman will have plenty to say, but Crabtree will try to let his play do the talking.

  1. That’s a great attitude to have and what I like to hear. But Sherman should still push him extra harder now after hearing this and see if he can get him to crack a little, let’s put his conviction to the test, it will make for great TV!

  2. I hope earl Thomas gets hurt for a few games so Sherman can get lit up over and over. The best shut down corners move to stay with the top receiver.

  3. I hope earl Thomas gets hurt for a few games so Sherman can get lit up over and over. The best shut down corners move to stay with the top receiver.

    Classy.

  4. Translation: Sherman owns me, the whole world saw it three times last year. Nothing I can say would change that simple fact.

  5. I get the feeling that Richard Sherman considers himself such a good player that he is afforded the privilege of acting like a childish punk. He is truly blind to his own immaturity, because after all…he is a great cornerback, why trouble himself with acting like an adult?

Crabtree is at least smart enough to realize that playing Sherman’s childish game yields no benefits to Crabtree or the 49ers in the long run. His focus is appropriately placed on becoming a better football player instead.

  6. Only someone with no long term memory would believe that Crabtree “don’t get into talking about these guys.”

I will be honest and admit that Crabtree keeps a pretty tight lid on his trash talking. But he does talk trash from time to time.

Sherman gets on peoples’ nerves because he jaws so much. But when you are the guy literally taking a Superbowl out of Michael Crabtree’s hands, you can talk all you want.

    Go Hawks!

  7. Thanksgiving game should be fun to watch–TV will have a camara on the two each play–fun replays to watch.

  8. I wish more players would take this type of approach. Probably not as entertaining to those fans who like big mouths, but a breath of fresh air for those of us who appreciate the game more than the off-the-field drama.

  9. C’mon red and gold, when boldin blew up on Green Bay, y’all huffed and puffed and the next week against Seattle..nothing. Then huffed and puffed “wait til we get Crabtree back” and in nfccg..nothing. Stop huffing and puffing about this thanksgiving because you already know what’s gonna happen…nothing.

  10. Uhhh somebody should remind crab about him talking sh*t and starting a fight a Larry Fitzgeralds charity event that STARTED this whole thing !!! He doesn’t talk yet talked about Sherman’s mom team city and game ! Everyone bashes Sherman specifically on this subject is a total MORON !

Crab started it Sherman vowed to finish it and so far Sherman has owned Crabtree practically every single matchup it’s not even close .

Sherman > Crabtree it’s not even close !

Richard Sherman is like: “I will destroy you….but only if you are on the left side of the field.”

    —-

He plays the right side. Nice try.

  12. Crabtree has never scored a TD against the Seahawks.

In his entire 5-year career, in 11 total games, he has never scored a single TD against the Seahawks. That includes against one of the worst defenses the NFL has ever seen in the 2009 Seahawks.

So what does that say, Crabtree? I mean, if you let your play speak for itself.

  13. I’m looking forward to Harbaugh designing a few play calls where they pitch to Carlos Hyde and block everyone except Sherman. I remember in the first game last year Vance McDonald trucked Sherman. Andre Johnson did the same thing to Sherman. It was fun to see. Sherman has exceptionally poor tackling form. He doesn’t bend his knees and he puts his head straight down to the ground. Look for the 9ers to test his manhood.

you know crabtree was out til week 13 with a achilles tear?

  15. It’s the mature response. Still– I’d love to see him tweet something with a vague reference to Sherman every other day, just to watch Sherman melt down.

You’re a top five corner, making a jillion dollars, just own a SB– and you’re STILL obsessed over some imagined slight or offhand remark?

  16. Sherman is a chump. When you start shutting down the best player on the field then do all the talking you want. Haven’t heard Sherman say much about Jarius Wright burning him. Twice.

  17. I love how Sherman got burned by Jarius Wright from the Vikings. He was 2012 4th Round Pick. He has crept up the depth chart and will emerge as a solid receiver in the league. It was a thing of beauty to see him juke Sherman out of his shoes…. It goes to show, Sherman doesn’t have the resume to talk so much! Watch the Jarius wright Touchdown Vikings against Seattle this past season, if you wanna see Sherman in action against WR #4 on depth chart

Crabtree will respond with winning a superbowl ring of his own.
    ————————-

Maybe he should start by finally scoring a TD against the Seahawks. For the first time in his life.

    Mediocre is an understatement.

  19. Top 100 players of 2014 as chosen by their peers:

Richard Sherman #7 and the top defensive player. Not just top DB but top overall defensive player.

Michael Crabtree….umm…sorry but he’s not on the list.

So, ok, ok…top 100 players of 2014 as chosen by you, the fans:

Richard Sherman #3 and again top defensive player.

Michael Crabtree…oops, seems he didn’t make this list either. Sorry niners fans.

Guess that pretty much says it all. No reason for Crabtree to talk when he has nothing to talk about. Meanwhile down at the ranch Richard Sherman shares his dominating 2014 stats to anyone willing to view the facts.

  20. Sherm not only got into Crabtree’s head, he got into y’all’s heads too.

    LOL

    Crab is learning.

You don’t talk smack to the best when you got nothing to back it up.

    First at Fitzgerald’s charity.

Then all first half in the NFCCG.

Better to try to diffuse the situation if you constantly come out on the short end.

  21. I grew up hating the Niners and I’m pulling for Crabtree in this one. Seattle was too much of a joke to be hated. Go Giants.

You guys realize it depends on your POV. For example if you’re facing the offense or facing the defense

  23. No—he focuses on SHOES!!!!!!! (look it up)

Lovely posture in the photo there pretty boy Crab’s.

  24. You have one average WR and a world class defender. Crabtree is riding Sherman’s coattails on this one.

  25. I grew up hating the Niners and I’m pulling for Crabtree in this one. Seattle was too much of a joke to be hated. Go Giants.

Well, I grew up hating the Giants, and still do because of people like you.

    Super Bowl Champs

    Go Hawks

  26. The 49ers are on the downward spiral…Seattle will dominate for the next 5+ years…Crabtree will be playing for Seattle by next year…He wants to win some gold…

pretty sure sherm is the one crying here

  28. I grew up hating the Niners and I’m pulling for Crabtree in this one. Seattle was too much of a joke to be hated. Go Giants
    ========================

Still hurting over the beat down you received at home by the Hawks, huh?

    Get over it.

  29. Sherman talked about their beef on a new reality show “American Muscle” last night on Discovery. He said his dislike for Crabtree stemmed from something private that happened between them. The way he explained it seemed like the public does not know exactly what happened between them. He did say that since he got a contract extension and it looks like he and Crabtree will be playing against each other longer, that he gets the opportunity to “choke him out” by continuing to dominate him. lol I may be in the minority, but I like Sherman. He seems like an approachable guy in public who, if he had the time, would stop and take a picture or sign an autograph. I could be wrong.

  30. I bet Sherm wouldn’t play the same season he had a complete achillies tear. Nevermind play at an extremely high level. Crabtrees toughness is one of the best parts of his game. Great blocker. Him and Boldin are the toughest WR combo in the league.

  31. Is it possible that Crabtree has irritated and irritant? Might be why Sherman hates this guy so much. Crabtree has something on him that gnaws at his soul. It explains why he has him on his mind daily.

  32. I’d like to see Shermans game after coming off a torn Achilles. Crab is a baller. If you don’t agree, then don’t draft him in your fantasy league. You’ll be sorry after he completes his first full season with Kaep.

  33. So Crabtree threatens and insults Sherman at a Larry Fitzgerald sponsored golf tournament 2 years ago and Sherman makes him pay for it, and Sherman’s the bad guy? Prime example of the 49ers fan mentality…GO SEAHAWKS!

  35. Please stop being a idiot sherman. You haven’t made any inroads like the people who paved the way for you to have tjis wonderful opportunity I.e dr. King, Muhammad Ali , willie mays etc..

  36. It’s not the you don’t talk… It’s that you can’t talk…Sherman won that round buddy…so yeah you have to stay quiet until one up him… And what is all this class stuff… This is football not a formal dinner… Emotions and passion and love for the game creates this everyone talks trash on the field… If you didn’t you never loved it…Indeed…

  37. wiztopher says: Jul 10, 2014 8:51 PM

Well done, Crabtree. Bout time some example of “class” was made in pro sports
    ——————————————————–

Please refer to my post above…..

  38. Watch the replay of Sherman’s glorious batted ball. You’ll see he was in bad position… it was his defensive lineman TEAMMATE who put the heat on Kaepernick so he couldn’t step into the throw, that’w what made the play. If Kaepernick can step into the throw, lil’ Richard’s burnt, toasted and watching Crabtree play in the Bowl. But thanks to Sherman’s teammate causing the underthrow, Sherman gets to prance around afterwards and go on a smack rant to Erin Andrews.

  39. That’s all you do Crabtree is talk. Do these players forget or are they that stupid

  40. Sherman does back his talk up though with all the plays he makes for his team. If you want to shut him up, outplay him and shut up. So far, nobody has been able to beat him and shut him up.

  41. Super Bowls
    Sherman 1 : Crabtree 0

Sherman has exceeded expectations as a player, while Crabtree hasn’t.

Sherman has bragging rights and is using them.

  42. he’s had a 3 td game and a 2 td game on patrick peterson, so…..

its nice sherman is still talking about being able to cover a receiver while he’s recovering from achilles surgery. crabtree helped SF when he returned, but still that’s not a huge accomplishment by sherman.

  43. crabs was not ready to be the go to guy at the end of the game. he still made a great impact having returned from injury, though.

  44. When they play on Thanksgiving, Richard Sherman will be saying “Gobble gobble gobble” the whole game, because it is his festival. Thanksgiving celebrates turkeys like Richard Sherman. In fact, the whole Seahawks team will turn into a bunch of turkeys.

  45. He doesn’t talk? Since when? I guarantee you that if Crabtree and the Niners get over on Sherman or the Hawks this year that you won’t be able to shut this clown up.

  46. Is this guy a secret Kardashian? You can’t look at any football news without him appearing? Are you going to tell us what kind of underwear he likes?

  47. “I don’t get into talking about these guys…because then I’d have to tell everyone how this is my fault and now I’m going to pay for it for the rest of my career. Think I’ll let the band-wagon 49er fans fight this for me. Crabtree out!”

  48. “seahawksfansince2013 says:

Seahawks winning rings while 49ers sit and cry.”

Rings????? Slow down big boy. 1 ring at a time.

  49. “Sherman talked smack to the media, Crabtree didn’t.”

That’s because the losers really don’t have much to talk about, unless you’re Colin “If that pass had been a little higher, you’d have been the goat, Richard Sherman” Kaepernick.

  50. I really want Crabtree to trash Sherman on the field, I think everyone outside of Seatle would like to see that.
    ————————————————————————-
Lol, too bad craptree and krappernick are not capable of beating the lob, if the phonywhiners win it will be because of gore, the o line and the defense, definitely not because of “crap inc.” (Krappernick n craptree)

  51. The whole “if the pass had been higher it would have been a TD” is funny on many levels and really shows how few “players” exist on this board.

First, Sherm had time to turn his back on Crab and still get the ball. That means he not only was with him, he reacted faster to it.

Second, he got his entire hand on it. In fact he got so much of it he was able to play volleyball with Smith. That wasn’t luck and you would know that if you’d seen him do the exact same thing to Thomas vs the Giants earlier.

If the ball had been thrown higher as Kap and the rest of you like to whine, either…

    1. It would have been high enough to fly out of the end zone. BTW, that’s what a good QB would have done.

    2. He wouldn’t have turned and instead would have swatted it while running with Crab.

    Or

    3. He would have only gotten half his hand on it and it would have simply flown out of the back of the end zone.

The mistakes – of many – were the receivers not getting separation coupled with a QB who isn’t really a QB but instead a RB with an arm.

He should have thrown it away and if you’d played the game – especially if you’d played CB – you’d know that.

One other thought, I bet the SB was almost as painful to all you Niners as the NFCCG.

    Choked out.

t.y. hilton sure did a number on sherman last season…what about jarius wright?

  53. Richard Sherman is great for the game–gives it life.

This rivalry reminds me of the old Steelers-Raiders rivalry in the 70’s. Jack Tatum hated Lynn Swann–called him all kinds of names. Those games were classic.

Real fans–not fantasy fans–love to see real fire and passion back in the game.

  54. All teams have to do to avoid Sherman is play their best WR’s on the right side. Being how Richard ” ME” Sherman refuses to play the teams best WR and only plays the left side. I’m sure the teams playing Seattle this yr all have WR’s that want to just smack that dude in the helmet. Sherman is 6’3 but only weighs 195 lbs. We WILL see this new age of huge WR’s bully Sherman this yr. You know he’ll cry about it also. Didn’t everybody love watching Andre Johnson beat the crap out of the big mouth a couple yrs ago trying to get physical with him? Let Sherman do that stuff to Steve Smith. Little Stevie Smith will whoop hius butt on national TV…lol

  55. Crabtree has never scored a TD against Seattle because its widely known that their defense cheats with Pass Interference on every play..

  56. I don’t get all the hate on Sherman. I guarantee if Crabtree lit him up every game this season his mouth would be just as big as Sherman’s. You don’t know what he says on the field. It’s not like Sherman goes and disrespects every receiver he goes up against.

  57. @sb44champs:

In 2009, Crabtree faced a Seattle defense coached by Jim Mora Jr, and who were statistically one of the worst secondaries in the history of the game. Not one member of the LOB was on that team.

And Crabtree STILL couldn’t score a TD.

So your excuse is invalid. Try again.

  58. BIG NEWS !!

I just read that the Seahawks are changing thier entire defensive scheme, specifically to be able to move Sherman around to cover the “best reciever’ wherever he lines up.

Pete Carroll was quoted as saying “Well we already won a Super bowl, so now our priority is to address the gripes of anoymous posters on PFT”

  59. Wasn’t it Crabtree that started talking smack during the Superbowl? I thought this whole thing started because after Sherman denied Crabtree on that last play Sherman went to go shake his hand and Crabtree shoved it away and started saying something. Then it just escalated from there. I could be wrong though.

  60. Sherman has a big mouth SHUT UP
Don’t get caught in the mix Crabtree
    ———————————————————

Sherman can talk all he wants. What can Crabs say? He has NEVER scored a TD against the Seahawks…..

    Go Hawks

  61. Let me clear things up. As Sherman said in his interview, the reason he doesn’t follow the “best WR” is because he doesn’t have too. The only reason he would, is if the other corner wasn’t any good. Byron Maxwell played lights out last year. No, he isn’t as good as Sherman, but he is a Great Corner that can handle his side of the field….

    Any other stupid questions?

    Go Hawks

  62. 1phillyphan.. I get it you dislike Sherman but atleast make sense please because you end up looking like a person trying to ft a square into a circle for hours . That conflict with Andre Johnson was with Cortland Finnegan not Richard Sherman so now everything you wrote now looks dumb.

And lastly who cares of he follows the #1 wr , is he supposed to change up one of the top 3 defenses in the history of professional football .. EVER !!!! Why would they change their scheme that’s Historically one of the top units ever assembled to appease your attitude about following a wr . Truth is he could cover the #1 all the time qbS be just as successful .

Thanks for the laugh with your poor philly perspective !
