On Friday afternoon, former Vikings punter Chris Kluwe made it clear that something will be happening in his lingering dispute with the Vikings, but that no details will be provided until next week. Kluwe then proceeded to provide details to Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press.
Per Tomasson, Kluwe said that suit definitely will be filed after settlement talks between his lawyer and the team disintegrated.
Kluwe’s terms included a four-to-eight-game suspension for special-teams coordinator Mike Priefer, who allegedly made homophobic remarks in Kluwe’s presence. Kluwe claims that Priefer admitted to making certain comments while being questioned for a third time -- and after learning that corroborating evidence existed.
Tomasson also reports that Kluwe wanted the team to donate $1 million to gay and lesbian support groups. The Vikings declined both requests, offering to donate only $100,000.
Kluwe further contends the Vikings continue to refuse to make the report of the investigation public. He said that the case could be in court as soon as Monday morning.At one point on Friday, the Vikings were expected to issue a statement on the situation. That hasn’t happened, possibly because of Kluwe’s comments on Twitter and to Tomasson.
Meanwhile, Kluwe’s lawyer says that the the player will “sue for the works,” and that the damages claim will exceed $10 million.
