The Ravens and 49ers, coached by the Harbaugh brothers, had planned to conduct a joint practice on Friday, August 8 at M&T Bank Stadium. Key word: had.
The Ravens have announced that the practice has been canceled due to the limitation on consecutive days of practice or football activities during training camp. The 49ers would have violated that provision if the team had practiced on Friday, the day after a preseason game against Baltimore.
“We’re very disappointed for fans who were planning to attend Friday’s practice against the 49ers,” Ravens team president Dick Cass stated. “We hope some of them will be able to come to the practice at Navy on Monday.”
The press release announcing the cancellation softens the blow a bit by pointing out that it would have been a walk-through-type practice only, and that player autograph signings would not have occurred after practice.
The good news is that the development gives the Ravens a little bad news unrelated to the Ray Rice situation.
