On Sunday, there was a brief scare in Falcons camp regarding defensive tackle Ra’Shede Hageman’s wrist after he fought with center Joe Hawley during the team’s practice.
Initial reports about a broken bone were incorrect and Hageman was back at practice when the Titans rolled in for a joint workout on Monday. So was Hawley and Hawley was also back to extracurricular activities.
Hawley scrapped with members of the Titans, including cornerbacks Tommie Campbell and Coty Sensabaugh, about 20 minutes into the workout. That didn’t please Falcons coach Mike Smith, who booted Hawley from practice because Hawley would have been ejected from a game for the same behavior.
“The guys knew the rules of engagement. They were violated,” Smith said, via the Associated Press. “When they are violated, there’s going to be a consequence. … During a game, if that were to happen, we’re going to lose a player. We need to know that we can’t be fighting.”
Titans coach Ken Whisenhunt was less riled up, calling a fight during the joint practice “almost inevitable” and said he was happy it got out of the way early so practice could progress in a calmer fashion.
