The Packers will be down a starting safety when they face the Titans in Saturday’s preseason opener.
Morgan Burnett won’t make the trip to Nashville with his teammates after suffering a strained oblique at practice on Monday. He’s remained out through the week and coach Mike McCarthy included Burnett on the list of players whose injuries would keep them out of the lineup this week.
“You want to be there; as a competitor, you want to be involved,” Burnett said, via Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com. “It’s just something we’ve got to take one day at a time.”
Micah Hyde will start at one safety spot and the Packers will likely choose between Sean Richardson and first-round pick Ha Ha Clinton-Dix at the other safety spot. Demovsky reports that McCarthy said Richardson has had “a helluva camp,” but the desire to see what the rookie can do could wind up tilting the playing time in his direction.
Defensive linemen Jerel Worthy and Letroy Guion and safety Tanner Miller will also remain in Green Bay along with the previously ruled out tackle Don Barclay, wide receiver Jared Abbrederis and tight end Colt Lyerla.
