Texans “terrible” in first game of O’Brien era

O'Brien

So far, not so good for the Texans under Bill O’Brien.

After a 32-0 drubbing by the Cardinals, O’Brian summed up the performance in one word: Terrible.

It’s unacceptable to play like we did,” O’Brien added, via John McClain of the Houston Chronicle.

O’Brien didn’t blame it all on the players. “We have to do a better job of coaching and it starts with me,” he said.

But the coaches will remain in place, at least for the season. Players can come and go.

One player fans perhaps wish never came is quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, who completed six of 14 passes for 55 yards with a pair of interceptions. That translates to a passer rating of 19.2.

Fitzpatrick’s performance could increase speculation/clamoring for a trade that would bring Ryan Mallett from New England. Even though Mallett wasn’t stellar in the preseason opener, he knows the offense and has never had a chance to show what he can do in games that count. Fitzpatrick has, which is one of the reasons he was available to be signed.
