Brady keeps praising LaFell

When Patriots quarterback Tom Brady last praised new receiver Brandon LaFell, Brady distinguished LaFell from “little pygmies” like Danny Amendola and Julian Edelman.

This time around, Brady found a way to talk up LaFell without throwing stones at guys who could easily duck them.

“I’ve really enjoyed being with him,” Brady told reporters regarding LaFell.  “He’s added a lot.  He’s got a real love for the game, and he does a great job out there getting open.  He just keeps making more plays.  It’s really fun for a quarterback to see guys out there really working hard to make the improvements and then really do it, and hopefully it continues to carry over.  It’s been a lot of fun to be with him.”

Then came the praise for the guys Brady slighted the last time around.

“And Julian [Edelman] and Danny [Amendola] — [it’s the] same thing,” Brady said.  “[Kebrell Thompkins] has been making a bunch of plays.  All those guys who have been out there are great. The offensive line keeps building, and they’re really the strength of our team. I’ve got a lot of confidence in our group, but we’ve just got to go out and keep doing it, keep making improvements and learn from our mistakes, and then go out and execute when it matters.”

For the Patriots, it matters most when the playoffs come along.  By then, we’ll know a lot more about whether Brady’s weapons are getting it done.

  1. We all know that tom brady is going to throw Brandon LaFell under the bus after he overthrows him in an important game (… and numb-brained, mouthbreathing patriots fans will blame him, too).

The patriots aren’t much of a team without spying.

  2. During last years ‘disrespect-fest’ involving the Panthers and ‘I forgot the other team’, LaFell was the only skill position player not being a jerk. It was real noticeable and It’s nice to see him having success…

  3. Brady is just surprised he has a WR who can play a little bit. Belicheat has cheated Brady these last few years– hasn’t given him anything to work with.

  4. .
The Patriots receiving corp is an unknown. Last year they were inexperienced, inconsistent and injury prone.. Will Dobson, Amendola, Tompkins and Boyce improve? Can Lafell catch? Anyone got a backup plan in case Edelman gets hurt?

  5. Nice to see taller receivers on this offense, i hope Tyms make the 53 too.
I expect Pats will put Jeremy Gallon on IR and redshirt year, then will take the Boyce´s spot.

  6. Lafell has potential to be a #3, and Brady can make him look good if anyone can. But he’s not very athletic, doesn’t have incredible size, and had some awful drops for the Panthers. There’s a reason he was allowed to walk in the offseason…

  7. It’s great to see LaFell catching on and catching passes more consistently from Brady. I also hope Tyms makes the 53 man squad. That would make for a more dynamic passing attack. It would be fun to watch for sure. Boyce needs to step it up or step out of the way. He is not living up to his speed or potential yet.

  8. I for one will be in section 207 to watch it all unfold!!!!!!! The train is leaving the station ……your with us or against us!!!!

Sign me up for the against side……

  9. @doctorrustbelt

Brady has never thrown a receiver under the bus (and for that matter any teammate). You must be thinking Captain One and Done Manning.

Also, as for cheating… filming was and is legal. Read up on the rules.

  10. @doctorrustbelt,brady doesnt throw anyone under the bus,he takes responsibility for himself ,and as a LWEADER he will kick guys in the butt for screwing up,its what a LEADER does. You must be thinking of a Jets or RAVens qb. And seriously, after ALL THESE YEARS,STILL the infantile jokes????

  11. Right now…Brady & Brees may be the only QB’s in NFL [ yes Manning is not on that list w/his ducks]…that are able to put passes in a place where their receivers do not get left for slaughter..but can catch it.

The only other potential is Foles right now, once he plays a full season, w/Wilson very distant from above.

The gunslingers, like Newton, Kaepernick , Flacco, etc…have the arm, but not acute accuracy…and THAT has alot to do w/drops.

ANOTHER..jet fan w/a very high IQ

My 2 cents, Dobson = non factor
    Thompkins will be a star
Boyce, special teamer / kick returner
Lafell, don’t know anything about him
Edelman and Amendola are the backup plan for each other

  14. I don’t know how they do it but the Patriots just keep adding depth and role players that are great fits. Belichick’s mantra: “Do your job” is a life lesson to us all, not just his players.

  15. Pats have a higher winning percentage since spygate and fans forget the jets turned them in after admitting doing it themselves.

  16. Zero SB since spygate. Outplayed by Flacco twice in the AFCC game. Choked away perfect season when the best offense in history only scoring 14 points against 17th ranked Giants defense.

  17. Good for LaFell. But for the past 3 years, every summer Panthers fans thought it would be LaFell’s break out season, and every year we were dissapointed by bone headed drops.

Not missed catches that could be blamed on Cam’s ability to overthrow any receiver on the field. But drops.

LaFell is essentially a small TE. Great blocker, questionable receiver. If he gets it together in NE, he should have a nice career in front of him. But Panthers fans spent 4 years holding their breath for that, it’s NE’s turn now.
