The Saints got Drew Brees back at practice this week. They’ll have to wait to get him back in a game.
Brees won’t play against the Titans at the Superdome on Friday night, which pushes his preseason debut back at least another week. Brees had been bothered by an oblique injury, but was able to get back on the practice field before the Saints left West Virginia.
There’s not much concern that the injury will be an issue for Brees moving forward and it’s probably a safe bet that he’ll feel comfortable running a very familiar offense even with the bare minimum of preseason work. Luke McCown gets the start in his place.
Wide receivers Marques Colston and Kenny Stills are also sitting this one out, as are safety Jairus Byrd, cornerback Champ Bailey and guards Ben Grubbs and Jahiri Evans as New Orleans waits to get everyone healthy before the games start to count.
