The Eagles cut a guy Tuesday, which wouldn’t necessarily be news, except it is.

The team announced they released veteran linebacker Jason Phillips.

Phillips was expected to be a solid backup and special teams player, but suffered a torn ACL in training camp last year and hasn’t been the same player this offseason.

As Adam Caplan of ESPN points out, that’s the Eagles’ first transaction other than signing a rookie since May 19.

That’s a remarkable run of stability, at a time when many teams use the 85th through 90th roster spots as a revolving door, looking at guys for a few days at a time before shipping them out for new versions.
