Haloti Ngata fined for kicking Shawn Lauvao

Ravens defensive tackle Haloti Ngata was able to avoid a flag for kicking Redskins guard Shawn Lauvao in the preseason game between the two teams last week, but it didn’t escape the notice of the league office.

PFT has confirmed with the league that Ngata has been fined $8,268 for unnecessary roughness. Ngata kicked Lauvao with his right foot after Lauvao laid out Ravens cornerback Dominique Franks at the end of a run by Washington running back Alfred Morris.

Ngata said after the game that he was trying to protect his teammate when he lashed out in the heat of the moment, but the video of the moment likely made the case for fining Ngata pretty clear for the league.

Ngata picked up previous fines from the league for hits on Ben Roethlisberger and Mark Sanchez in 2010 and 2011 respectively.

  1. Ngata should have kicked him harder rather than just nudging him with his foot. Cheap shot by the Lauvao.

  2. A Samoan on Samoan crime.

By the way, I dig both of these guys. They each ball out, and play the game the way it’s supposed to be played. Of course, Ngata is an absolute monster – while Lauvao is “just” pretty decent (by NFL standards anyway).

By the way, there’s an interesting mic’d up clip of Lauvao and Cushing on YouTube.

  3. Second $8,268 fine I have seen in the last few days. Where does this number come from?

  4. gota take care of your own, then that stuff will stop by the other team……

  5. Judging from the Ravens’ fans comments so far, it becomes clear now why Ray Rice was giving a standing ovation.

  6. A dirty player on a dirty team in a dirty city filled with dirty fans….this a dirty little secret? Nah it’s pretty well known. Fine should have been more, oops it’s the Ravens.

Did Ngata spend the offseason training with Suh?

Did you see Ngata’s kick he was fined for? It was barely a nudge. The guy didn’t even notice it. Suh would have stomped him

  8. So Peyton gets the same fine for taunting…another example of Roger favoring Raven players

  9. I guess it makes Hines and Joey both former Steelers …you think? Is kicking an opponent a ” football play”? Is breaking someone’s nose a ” football play”? Take a second and think, if you can, if e
What he did in anyway should be part of the game. Also didn’t he rough up RGKnee? Crickets….

When Ben got his nose broken, it was a football play. Ngata’s “swim” move over the OL had his arm in the air, and it caught Ben’s face as it came down.
Remember when Richard Seymour shoved Ben to the ground and non of his teammates did anything to help him? You know you’re in bad shape when your own OL doesn’t come to the QB’s defense.

  11. The broke nose was nothing compared to breaking Keith rivers jaw. Hines was a cheap shot artist who could only block defenders that weren’t looking. Joey porter gets kicked out of a game before it starts for fighting. Typical classless bums who yinzers and morons from Virginia are proud of.
