Cowboys trade for defensive end Lavar Edwards

The Cowboys needed to drop 22 players from the roster to get from 75 to 53 by Saturday’s deadline.

Now they’ll need to make a 23rd move. Todd Archer of reports that the Cowboys have traded a conditional seventh-round pick to the Titans in exchange for defensive end Lavar Edwards.

Edwards was a fifth-round pick in 2013 and played in seven games while making one start as a rookie. He made nine tackles and knocked down a pass, which doesn’t make for the most extensive highlight reel but the Cowboys either saw something they liked or had good enough reports on Edwards coming out of LSU that they wanted to bring him on board.

He’ll join what’s regarded as one of the league’s weakest defensive lines, so there should be playing time to earn if Edwards can make a strong impression on defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli.

  1. If the Cowboys finish in the top half of the league in defense, Rod Marinelli deserves a statue outside AT&T Stadium.

  2. To start the season they are without defensive end Demarcus Lawrence their 2nd round pick due to injury and they don’t expect DE Anthony Spencer back for a few games. So help was needed for sure. Maybe they can get a few good snaps out of Edwards.

  3. Surprised this site isn’t publishing the proposed Cowboy trade with MN. Jones reportedly offered RB DeMarco Murray and the Cowboys 2015 1st and 3rd round picks along with a player to be named (reportedly a WR).

No word out of MN, but it wouldn’t be surprising if additional picks/players were added and MN considers it. Peterson is 29, but Emmitt Smith played until age 35 and there is no doubt Peterson is physically capable of doing the same.

  4. Spencer is back from the PUP list, so that means with this guy they’ll be able to rotate fresh boys in. This is what worked for the Cowboys under Jimmy J’s S.B. regime !! When Demarcus Lawrence comes back we should be much better than that “Joke” most people refer to as our defense.
As far as the A.P. deal, I’m not sure about that. Demarco had a great year with over 1200 yds, and missed several games. Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to see Adrian as a Cowboy. However it sounds like “The Great Train Robbery”, which is what Jimmy called the Hershel Walker trade lol Even with the same team, but this time it could be us being robbed. Each player is only 1 play away from a career ending injury !!
