At least they’re playing a rookie quarterback.
That’s the bright side for the Jets defense going into the opener against the Raiders, as they’re still short-handed in the secondary.
Jets coach Rex Ryan told reporters today that cornerback Dee Milliner would not play this week because of a high ankle sprain.
That leaves Darrin Walls and converted safety Antonio Allen as his starters, with Kyle Wilson as the nickel.
The Jets’ lack of qualified corners is as obvious as it is long-standing.
Since cutting AWOL Dimitri Patterson and losing rookie Dexter McDougle to a torn ACL, the Jets are bringing guys in off the street to play. The fact they’re getting Raiders second-round pick Derek Carr this week might be enough to save them, but against a more competent passing game, this would be a major issue.
